Meet The Team
Studio Owner & Pilates Instructor
Sam Ridings
I have been a physical education teacher for over 24 years I have always had a strong passion within the field of physiology, posture and performance. In 2015 I completed Level 3 diploma in teaching Pilates, ‘Modern Pilates’, with Cherry Baker. This form of Pilates offers clinical forms of exercise that work on developing balance throughout the body and building strong stable muscles that are also flexible and correctly aligned.More recently I trained with Stott Pilates Reformer intermediate Level and thoroughly enjoy teaching using Pilates equipment. I have also completed workshops specialising in ‘specialist Pilates -Hip and knee’, ‘ Neuro-Lates -working with MS clients and clients that suffer from Parkinson’s disease.’I recently completed my training to teach Barre Pilates. The Barre Pilates Method combines basic Ballet Barre exercises with Pilates, body conditioning moves and stretches. It offers a full body workout that overloads the muscles through full range of movement as well as smaller end range concentric and eccentric contractions.

After an accident resulting in a painful back injury I came across Pilates here at Natural Balance. I had attended many Physio/Chiro and Osteopath appointments but unfortunately nothing seemed to take the pain away. I decided I needed to take control back over my injury. After doing a series of one to one sessions I then started the Mat classes three times a week plus extra practice at home. It was hard work but the commitment paid off. I was encouraged to become a Pilates Teacher and I went on to complete my training with Stott Pilates and qualify as a Pilates Mat Teacher in 2015. Since then I have completed many different courses and workshops including Barre Pilates, Mobility and Movement.I have taught in various Gyms and Studios but now I am back where it all started here at Natural Balance Pilates. Most important things I have learned: Commitment is Key. Movement is medicine!

I started Yoga when i was 23 as another branch to my 'Fitness Tree', thankfully I attended a studio that explored all aspects of Yoga and thats when I realised there was more to learn!Yoga has helped me gain mental clarity over the years and enabled me to manage way more than my fitness and thats what I love about it. Its also why I decided to do my 200 hour Hatha YTT in 2017. I have benefited so much from this versatile practice I wanted to share it with everyone!Since completing my 200 hour YTT, I have taught in gyms and holistic centres.
