There are currently 25 mat classes a week, held on the following days (booking is necessary):
Monday 9:15, 10:15am, 6pm, 7:15pm and men-only at 8:30pm
Tuesday 9:30am and 6pm
Wednesday 10am, 11:15am, 12:30pm, 6pm, 7:15pm
Thursday 10am, 11:45pm, 5:45pm and 6:45pm
Friday 9:30am, 10:30am, and a ‘back care’ class at 11:30am
Saturday 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am
Sunday 9am and 10am
Pilates Mat Classes run weekly and are kept to a maximum of 12 participants to ensure individual attention and support. (Mats and small equipment provided)
The mat classes are great for strengthening the ‘core’ (including pelvic floor, deep abdominals, back and glutes), but also for toning and rebalancing the rest of the body. Classes are mixed ability and exercises are modified to suit individual strength, ability and any physical limitations. We focus on correct breathing and alignment and students are encouraged to ‘listen to their own body’ and not push it beyond where it’s comfortable.
The classes begin with a 5-7 minute warm up to ensure the joints are all mobilised, we then go into our transition exercises which are relatively gentle and begin ‘waking up’ the various muscle groups. As the class progresses it get’s more challenging until we then take it down again to gentle mobilisation and then 7 mins stretching/relaxation.
As a result of the classes you will become more toned, relaxed mentally and stronger physically. Aches and pains will usually begin to disappear as your body becomes better aligned. You will also notice a difference in the way you stand and your general posture. Your generally wellbeing and mood will also improve due to the mind-body nature of the exercise and the deep breathing techniques.
